چکیده

The chlorination of singly and multiply charged C60 cations has been investigated with the selected-ion flow tube technique. Observations are reported for the reactions of C60 , C60 21 and C60 z31 with Cl2, CCl4, CDCl3, CH2Cl2 and CH3Cl at room temperature (295 6 2 K) in helium at a total pressure of 0.35 6 0.02 Torr. C60 z1 and C60 21 were observed not to chlorinate, or react in any other way, with these five molecules. Chlorine also did not react with C60 , but bimolecular chloride transfer and electron transfer reactions, reactions that result in charge reduction/charge separation, were observed to occur with CCl4, CDCl3, CH2Cl2 and CH3Cl. Chloride transfer was the predominant channel seen with CCl4, CDCl3 and CH2Cl2 while electron transfer dominates the reaction with CH3Cl. These results are consistent with trends in chloride affinity and ionization energy. The reluctant chlorination of the first two charge states of C60 is attributed to the energy required to distort the carbon cage upon bond formation, while the observed chloride transfer to C60 z31 is attributed to the greater electrostatic interactions with this ion. Optimum synthesis of (chloromethyl)silanes by chlorination and methylation reactions of chloro(methyl)silanes

Comparative studies on chlorination and methylation reactions have been carried out to afford chloromethyl(methyl)silanes. For chlorination reactions, three types of initiators, viz., azobisisobutyronitrile, benzoyl peroxide and dicumyl peroxide have been studied at different reaction conditions, e.g., solvent, temperature, time duration of reaction and molar ratio of reactants in view to get o...

Regioselective copper-catalyzed chlorination and bromination of arenes with O(2) as the oxidant.

Electron-rich aromatic C-H bonds undergo regioselective chlorination and bromination in the presence of CuX(2), LiX (X = Cl, Br) and molecular oxygen. Preliminary mechanistic insights suggest that the bromination and chlorination reactions proceed by different pathways.

The Lost Buckyballs

A 15-year-old female with no past medical history presented 3 hours after ingesting 2 Buckyballs she had been using to create a mock tongue piercing. Buckyballs are 5-mm magnets made of neodymium, which is 5 times more powerful than a regular magnet. They are used as educational toys and as an artistic medium. Buckyball stopped production in 2012 after many cases of ingestion and a United State...

The reaction of chlorite with horseradish peroxidase and chloroperoxidase. Enzymatic chlorination and spectral intermediates.

Chloroperoxidase and horseradish peroxidase use NaClOz as both the oxidant and the halogen donor for the peroxidative chlorination of monochlorodimedone. Previous studies have shown that both horseradish peroxidase and chloroperoxidase can catalyze iodination reactions with hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant; however, only chloroperoxidase catalyzes chlorination reactions under these conditions. ...
